The Human Rights Party of Cambodia ( French Parti des droits de l'homme ) was a liberal democratic political party in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

She officially campaigned (based on her name) for the preservation of democracy , respect for human rights and the abolition of the person-oriented party system. The Human Rights Party was particularly popular with Cambodians abroad, such as the Cambodians in France . Critics, however, viewed the party as a party that behaved as loyal to the king's party - the royalist FUNCINPEC - and the ruling socialist party Parti Populaire Cambodgia (PPC). It was supposed to weaken the opposition.

history

The party was founded on July 22, 2007 by Kem Sokha . He himself has often criticized the Parti Populaire Cambodgia . In the Cambodian parliamentary elections in July 2008, the party won 6.6% of the vote and received 3 seats in the national parliament. It became the third strongest force after the Parti Populaire Cambodgia (PPC) and the Sam Rainsy Party (successor to the Khmer Nation Party ). In 2009 the human rights party entered into an alliance with the Parti de Sam Rainsy (Sam Rainsy Party) and founded the Alliance Democratic Movement for Change ( French: Mouvement démocratique pour le changement ). In 2012 it merged with the Sam Rainsy Party to form the National Rescue Party of Cambodia , but formally existed until the 2017 local elections.
