Merger Island (English for fusion island ) is a 5 km long and icy island off the west coast of the Antarctic Alexander I Island . It is located in the entrance to Haydn Inlet .
Aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) were used in 1960 by the British geographer Derek Searle from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey for mapping. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them descriptively in 1986. It is named after the fact that the island almost disappears into the surrounding ice masses.
