Meridian Audio, Ltd. is a UK based consumer electronics manufacturer.

The company was founded in 1977 by Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd in Huntingdon . Stuart brought expertise from the fields of psychoacoustics and electrical engineering , Boothroyd from the fields of mechanical engineering and industrial design . Boothroyd has designed a number of Acorn products .

The products are valued by audiophiles and in the design and lifestyle sector, but also in the home theater sector. The awards the company has received for its products are also remarkable (see website).

In 1984 Meridian built the world's first audiophile CD player and in 1986 the first separate drive / converter combination. The company has now received more than 50 major industry awards for its CD players. For the CD player 800 Reference , the (in Anglo-American) renowned magazine Stereophile introduced the new highest rating A + .

Another business area is the development of software. So was z. B. Meridian Lossless Packing (a lossless compression algorithm for digital sound recordings) developed together with partners.
