Mail Submission Agent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A message submission agent (MSA) is a server that receives e-mails from a mail user agent and transfers them to a mail delivery agent or mail transfer agent .

Mail transfer agents traditionally receive such e-mails. While mail transfer agents can be reached on port 25, port 587 is provided for message submission agents.

Because mail transfer agents were originally designed for communication with each other, the problem of spam grew with the increase in delivering mail user agents . Mail user agents cannot be checked using the Domain Name System , so you have to switch to a user name and password query. First you took the detour SMTP-After-POP and then inserted SMTP-Auth . Mail transfer agents can be relieved of this by using message submission agents. The two servers can be tailored precisely to their respective tasks.

The Extended Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is a mandatory basis for message submission agents.
