Brass work

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brass works is the name of a production facility for products made of brass . The term is mainly used for manufacturers of blanks and round blanks, also known as rolling ingots and pressing bolts, in the manufacture of semi-finished products .

The most common alloys used to be called Ms 58 , today CuZn39Pb2 according to DIN 17660. Up to 2% lead is added to improve the machinability of the continuously cast material (automatic brass). Further processing into sheet metal and profiles, but also wire ( Leonische Waren ) is important.

Brass with a zinc content of between 28 and 36% becomes bullet shells ( cartridge brass ) because of its good deep-drawing properties .

The basis of the production of a brass factory is predominantly collective brass (i.e. scrap metal), which is melted, refined and thus recycled in induction furnaces. With a higher copper content (> 63%) than block metal (ingots), part of the recovered material goes to foundries that manufacture brass fittings and bring them onto the market in chrome, but die-cast parts made of brass are also used in a variety of ways.
