Meta research

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Meta-research is a young field of research that aims to achieve evidence-based improvement in research. It is also known as research exploration , as it uses research methods (e.g., meta-analyzes ) to determine how reliable research is and what improvements can be made. It covers all fields of science (especially health and medical research) and has been described as "taking a bird's eye view of science". Its aim is to improve the credibility and the replicability of scientific research results, since most research results, especially in medicine and psychology , are false ( Why most published research findings are false ). Meta-research aims to improve scientific practice, as summarized by John Ioannidis : "Science is the best that has happened to man [...] but we can do it better."
