Metamorphopsia (Gr. "Metamorph" = "transform", "opsie" = "see") describes a changed or distorted perception of the environment or of oneself in relation to the environment, which is usually experienced as a perception illusion . Neurological or psychological disorders as well as physical diseases of the eye can be considered as causes of this subjective visual disturbance .
The following misperceptions are counted among the metamorphopsia:
- Micropsia (Greek "micros" = "small"): the surroundings or parts are perceived smaller than they actually are
- Macropsy (Greek "macros" = "large"): the environment or parts of it are perceived larger than actually
- Dysmorphopsia : Parts of the environment are perceived as distorted
- Teleopsie : Parts of the environment are perceived further away than actually
- distorted color perception, change in color
Metamorphopsia is one of the possible symptoms. a. the Alice-in-Wonderland syndrome .
