Metaplay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Metaplay (also Meta-Roleplay or Meta-RP ) is a term from the role-playing field . In role-playing, especially live role-playing, the so-called LARP , there is a strict separation between IT ( intime ), the character's play in fiction, and OT ( outtime ), i.e. when the players are themselves . A player who turns his OT knowledge into his character knowledge, even though the character he is playing does not have this knowledge, does metaplaying: consequently he cheats. This definition is also broadened. Anyone who brings conflicts into the game from outside the game, for example a dispute in reality, damages the game through the sensitivities and emotions of the player that the character would not have.
