Period
The metric period ( Greek περίοδος periodos "handling", "cycle") is a term borrowed from rhetoric in ancient verse . Like the rhetorical period, it is either divided into several (mostly 2–4) kola or it consists of a sequence of similar verses, with the periods separated from one another by a pause, hiat , anceps or clause .
