The Michael Chapel in the Bad Godesberg district of Plittersdorf is the church of the Christian Community in Bonn. It is located in the historic riding stables of Villa Cahn . The building is a listed building as an “outbuilding” of this villa.

In the south-western part of the former property of Villa Cahn , Am Büchel 57, is the building of the Bonn community of the Christian community, which is based on Christian tradition and Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophy . The center of the community has been here since 1950.

history

The manorial villa built by the Bonn banker Albert Cahn and named after him was built on the left bank of the Rhine until 1870 . At about the same time and in keeping with the style of the main house, various outbuildings were built on the spacious property. This included a horse stable.

In October 1950, the Bonn Christian Community rented the stable, which was unused at the time, from the owner family living in the United States and converted it into a chapel; this chapel was consecrated on May 12, 1951. Until 1957 there were several legal disputes between the landlord and tenant about the continued use of the building. Even at the beginning of the 1960s, due to the planning to sell the entire property of Villa Cahn , only short-term rental contracts could be concluded with the owners. This sale took place in November 1970; the Rheinpark-Grundstücksgesellschaft ( Schörghuber Group ) acquired the property. As a result, there were again dismissals and disputes over the use of the chapel. In April 1976, the former economic area of Villa Cahn was designated by the city as a building plot for church and social purposes. The buildings were classified as worthy of preservation, and later monument protection status was also granted. A renovation with extensions took place in September 1981; the chapel also received a new interior. After further disputes with the owner, the Christian Community was able to acquire the property and the buildings at Am Büchel 57 on June 14, 1985 .
