Michael Dartsch

Michael Dartsch (* 1964 ) is a German music teacher, violinist and violin teacher.

Life

Michael Dartsch studied general music education, violin instrumental pedagogy (with Susanne Rabenschlag) and violin at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen (artistic maturity examination with Geoffry Wharton) at the Cologne University of Music . At the University of Cologne he studied pedagogy, psychology as well as music and its didactics. There he received his doctorate with a study on the professional field of kindergarten teachers .

He worked as a violin teacher and in elementary music education at various music schools, as a lecturer for violin at the University of Cologne and also emerged as a violinist and baroque violinist.

Since 1996 he has held a professorship for music education at the Saar University of Music . There he has headed the Music Education Department since 2008. His main focus is on elementary music education (EMP), educational science and violin didactics.

Michael Dartsch was the spokesman for the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Leitenden Musikpädagogischer Studiengänge” (ALMS) until 2015, works in the “Working Group Elementary Music Education at Training Institutes in Germany” (AEMP) and has been a member of the “Federal Technical Committee for Musical Education” since 2007. He was an editor in the "Neue Musikzeitung" and is the author of numerous magazine and book articles. He is also active in various areas of adult education, advanced training for music teachers, as a juror in music competitions and as a reviewer.

In 2005 he received the Saarland State Prize for University Teaching.
