Obelisk in Langenhagen, 2000

The obelisk in Langenhagen

In the context of EXPO 2000, the Kulturstiftung Langenhagen e. V. the exhibition 99 standpoints sculptures in Langenhagen . Michael Deiml participated with the 7 m high sculpture Obelisk (0.8 × 0.8 m), which is one of the few works in this special exhibition that can still be seen in the city today. Light affinity and inscriptions also play an important role in this somewhat different obelisk. Instead of a single stone, this obelisk consists of a steel mesh that is filled with hundreds of differently colored glass bottles. The inscriptions that are important for an obelisk are not on the surface, but are more or less hidden in the bottles as a personal message for the future. The letters, poems, notes or drawings that are barely legible from the outside reflect the emotional situation of Langenhagen students at the beginning of the third millennium. The white glass bottles in the top of the sculpture remain transparent and allow the obelisk to shine like a crystal in the sunshine.
