Michel Salamin

Michel Salamin (born October 15, 1929 in Sierre ; † December 17, 1993 ibid) was a Swiss historian . His specialty was the history of the Valais .

Life

The son of a teacher and the husband of a headmistress for medical assistants studied philosophy, French and history at the University of Freiburg im Üechtland . From 1960 to 1971 Salamin was a scholarship holder of the Swiss National Science Foundation for the promotion of scientific research. In Sierre he was a lay judge from 1969 to 1980 . His research is mainly concerned with the history of the Valais between 1798 and 1815. Among other things, he shows "that the Helvetic Republic never really gained a foothold in the Valais and that the state institutions and the authorities involved were never able to function properly." In 1980 he received the Paul Budry Prize.
