Microsoft Money is financial management software intended for personal use and small businesses. The first version was Microsoft Money for Windows , which was introduced on September 1, 1991. In 2009 Microsoft announced that it would discontinue the sale of Microsoft Money and end support in 2011.

Localizations

Money originally had many localizations that have gradually been discontinued. The versions for Brazil, German-speaking countries or Italy were discontinued around the turn of the millennium: On the one hand, these editions could not be sufficiently established on the market, on the other hand, the effort in relation to demand was too high, for example the HBCI interface would have to be implemented for Germany. Such was Money 99 , the last German, Money 2000 , the last Italian, Austrian and Swiss version.

The version for the United Kingdom, France and the "International English" version, which was produced for Australia, Singapore and other English-speaking countries, but does not have the usual country-specific adjustments such as tax rates, financial planning etc., was no longer continued after Money 2005 . The Canadian edition was discontinued in 2006.

The last English-language version Money 2008 was sold by Microsoft until June 2009 in the USA and Japan. Due to the recent strong online integration of the application, Microsoft created “Money Plus Sunset” as a compromise on the basis of Money 2008 without online functions and offered users to download it free of charge.

Localization for Germany

The last version available in Germany, Money 99 - Version 2000, is an update of the original Money 99 version , which Microsoft had to remove from the market and updated because of a large number of program errors. The first version was very poor, especially with regard to the upcoming euro changeover . All owners of the original Money 99 version received the update to the newer version free of charge from Microsoft. But even the updated version did not yet contain the hoped-for HBCI connection for online banking in Germany. It was limited to access via screen text (later T-Online ).

Through involvement in the German newsgroup about Money , Money 99 is kept alive. If properly installed, Money 99 can also be used on the newer Windows operating systems up to and including Windows 10 . An HBCI module developed by the German Ulrich Amann since 2002 enables online banking via the HBCI interface.
