Mihintale
Mihintale is one of the oldest Buddhist facilities in Sri Lanka . The Buddhist monastery is located on the Missaka Mountain 7 km east of Anuradhapura .
The monk Mahinda was sent by the Indian King Ashoka to preach Buddhism to Sri Lanka . When the king Devanampia Tissa was hunting and chasing a deer, Mahinda suddenly stood before him. He was converted to Buddhism through a conversation with him. He had a large monastery built on the hill, including a dagoba from the 2nd century BC.
