Mike McFerron

Mike McFerron (* in Oklahoma ) is an American composer and music teacher.

McFerron studied music with James Mobberley , Chen Yi and Gerald Kemner at the University of Missouri – Kansas City , as well as with Ray E. Luke . He taught at UMKC and Kansas City Kansas Community College before becoming Professor of Music, Composer in Residence, and Director of the Music Technology Program at Lewis University . He is also the founder and co-director of the Electronic Music Midwest music festival .

With his compositions McFerron u. a. Finalist of the South Bay Master Chorale Choral Composition Contest (1997), the Salvatore Martirano Composition Contest (1999), the Swan Composition Competition (2002), the Confluencias Electronic Miniatures II International Competition (2004), the Truman State / MACRO Composition Competition (2005 ), the American Modern Ensemble Composition Competition (2005) and the 1st International Electroacoustic Music Contest - CEMJKO (2006). His orchestral piece Perspectives earned him admission to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's First Hearing Program in 2001 and an honorable mention at the Rudolf Nissim Prize , won first prize at the Louisville Orchestra Composition Competition in 2002 and an honorable mention at the Masterprize International Composition Competition in 2003 . With Torrid Mix: Featuring DJ Jazzy King and Master LT , he won first prize at the Forecast Music Composition Competition in 2006
