Microbiostasis
Microbiostasis describes the temporary inhibition of the reproduction and metabolic activity of microorganisms and viruses . Chemical substances that can achieve this effect are called microbiostatic substances . The inhibiting effect is canceled again after the microbiostatic substance has been removed.
According to the spectrum of activity, they are divided into:
- Bacteriostatics : substances that inhibit bacterial growth .
- Antivirals : substances that prevent viruses from multiplying.
- Fungistats : substances that inhibit the growth of fungi .
- Algistatika : substances that inhibit the growth of algae .
The microbiostatic substances belong together with the microbicides to the antimicrobial substances .
