Microdermabrasion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the microdermabrasion (composed of the largest terms μικρός, small '. Derma , skin ' and lat. Abrasion , scraping '; mutatis mutandis "small abrading of skin") If it is a controlled, mechanical removal of the upper skin layers with small crystals (Aluminum oxide, salt , microfine sand). The crystals are blasted onto the skin at high speed and sucked off again using a vacuum .

In its basic features, this process corresponds to sandblasting . This method of skin abrasion without chemical agents is used to treat: Wrinkles on the face and neck / décolleté, scars , pigmentation disorders, calloused skin areas, stretch marks (e.g. after pregnancy), skin impurities and large pores. A complete elimination of the findings is not always possible. Several treatments are usually necessary, the exact number depending on the condition of the skin, the skin type and the skin problem to be treated. As a rule, six to ten treatments are recommended, with the first four treatments usually being carried out at weekly intervals and the following then monthly. The advantage of this method is that it is also suitable for skin types IV to VI.

Effects of cosmetic microdermabrasion

  • the skin becomes more elastic
  • the pores of the skin become finer
  • the firmness of the skin increases
  • the depth of the wrinkles is significantly reduced
  • the absorption of active substances by the skin is optimized
  • Activation of the skin's own collagen and elastin production (depth effects)

Contraindications

In the case of florid acne and other inflammatory skin changes (e.g. rosacea ), the method should not be used as these can spread further. Even if you have a history of cancer, this should be discussed with your doctor.

Medical dermabrasion complications

If the treatment is shallow, the original findings can remain. On the other hand, if the abrasion is too strong, the impairment of the stratum papillare can lead to the typical punctiform skin bleeding. Redness and scarring can occur, which can persist over the long term. The treatment can therefore lead to an aesthetic deterioration.

Cyst formation due to the closure of ducts of skin glands. In this case, the cysts must be surgically opened again.

Advice on cosmetic microdermabrasion

Cosmetic microdermabrasion does not go as deep as medical dermabrasion and therefore does not damage the skin, so that trained beauticians do not cause bleeding (except for the scar grinding, which goes deeper). However, in the first few days after microdermabrasion, the appearance of the skin may deteriorate in people who have skin impurities treated, as the microdermabrasion stimulates the skin to work from the depths and thus brings the impurities to the surface. But this is rather positive and to be seen as wanted. The complexion should then improve significantly.
