Microphobia (from the ancient Greek μικρóς (small, tiny) and φóβος (horror, fear)) is an anxiety disorder . The fear is triggered by tiny things, especially microorganisms .

Child species

More specific types of microphobia are bazillophobia and microbiophobia .

The former describes the fear of bacilli . The second describes more generally the fear of bacteria, protozoa and viruses.

Corresponding anxiety disorders often result in compulsion to wash .
