Microinsurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Microinsurance (English microinsurance schemes ) provide poor households, especially in developing countries protection against natural risks . Compared to the general population, poor households are usually more exposed to risks such as illness, accident or loss of property and are therefore more dependent on insurance services. However, due to their low economic attractiveness, they are not served by traditional insurance companies.

It is a relatively new microfinance service that complements classic business areas such as the granting of microcredits and the range of micro savings . Microinsurance is often discussed as an approach within the framework of so-called Base of the Pyramid business models, which aim to successfully integrate previously largely neglected sections of the population into corporate value chains .
