The Milton Margai College of Education & Technology (MMCET) is one of five polytechnics ( technical colleges ) in Sierra Leone . It is named after the first Prime Minister of Sierra Leone, Milton Margai .

history

MMCET was one of the first tertiary educational institutions in Sierra Leone under the name Milton Margai Teachers College (MMTC). Originally founded in Freetown as an educational institution for junior high school teachers, the courses and the teaching location have changed frequently. In 1995, the entire curriculum and courses of study were adapted to a new regulation and higher degrees were created. Five years later, the merger took place with the Freetown Technical Institute (FTI) and the Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (hotel management school).

Milton Margai College of Education and Technology had 709 students in the 1993/94 academic year, 1,050 in 2001/2002 and around 3,000 in 2005. In 2011/12, MMCET had 4,329 students.

The University of Applied Sciences is trying to get university status, but has to contend with irregularities and financial problems.
