Mine belt

A mine belt is a container that enables submarines to carry mines as armament. The mine belt, which can be attached to the side of the hull of the submarine, is particularly useful for smaller submarines, not to reduce the internal torpedo load.

The necessary equipment as well as the reduced speed and increased volume can be seen as major disadvantages. The respective mine belt can only be used for one boat class or similar classes.

Alternatively, mines can also be accommodated on board as follows:

  • in mine shafts in the pressure hull
  • in the torpedo tubes, instead of the torpedoes
  • in the outer cladding, below deck.
