Mineralienatlas (also called Fossil Atlas ) is a German-speaking, non-commercial platform for mineral and fossil collectors .

history

The Mineralienatlas was founded by Stefan Schorn in 1999. First and foremost, the site was a private presence to show minerals and to report on his hobby. From this, the mineral atlas developed over time. For this purpose z. B. installed a wiki and a forum, developed the community of the mineral atlas, and improved the wiki. B. a picture plugin and many other components implemented.

Wiki

The wiki of the Mineralienatlas contains over 25,000 pages on the subject of minerals and fossils; This makes it the largest platform on this topic in the German-speaking area. The wiki is maintained by a community with over 2000 members; the work is coordinated by a very committed team of members.

financing

The project is not commercial and is financed exclusively from donations and sponsorship money.

Volumes Mineralienportraits 3–4 are still in progress. The mineral portraits have the ISSN  1864-0230 . The volumes can also be viewed online. The profits from these projects serve exclusively to cover costs and to finance the platform.

Publicity

The Mineralienatlas was counted by mwVERLAG in the book Web Address Book for Germany 2004 and since then in all subsequent editions to the most important 6000 websites. The Mineralienatlas won 3rd place in the T-Online and Giga-TV home page awards.
