Mini chess

Mini chess is a chess variant for two teams of two players each, which the Hamburger Schachjugendbund (HSJB) uses to attract the public at events. With its reduced set of figures and the reduced playing field, it is particularly aimed at chess novices and beginners.

Mini chess is a type of tandem chess . Two partners each play with three double-step pawns , a rook , a bishop and a king per player on a chessboard with 3x7 fields, for which the 1st or 8th row and the two middle lines can be masked on a standard chessboard. As in tandem chess, the partner can use stones that have been struck. In contrast to the standard rules, capturing the king is permitted and leads to the winning team of the batting team. The rules do not say anything about pawn promotion and castling .
