Miramar is an elevated suburb, approx. 30 km north of the Californian city of San Diego , ( USA ) and at the same time the former location of the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School ( "Top Gun" ), made famous by the film of the same name with Tom Cruise .

With over 24,000 acres (97 km²), Miramar is one of the largest military airfields in the world ( throughput of approx. 200,000 flights per year).

1997 was Naval Air Station Miramar the US Navy from the US Marine Corps adopted and Miramar Marine Corps Air Station ( Miramar MCAS renamed). The property on which the MCAS is located has often been considered by the city of San Diego as a possible new location for the San Diego National Airport .
