The center pole is only mehrmastigen Sailboat types ( tall ships defined) with five or seven poles than each of the third or the fourth mast. Examples were the large five- master Potosi , Preussen , RC Rickmers and Skoleskibet København :

Prussia (five-masted full ship):

  • Jib, main, middle, LAEISZ (aft), cross mast; (English system: Fore, Main, Mizzen, Laeisz , Spanker mast)

RC Rickmers , København (five-masted barques):

  • Jib, main, middle, cross, mizzen mast;

or the huge American seven- masted gaff schooner Thomas W. Lawson . With him (see there) the seven masts were called after the German name:

  • Jib, main, cross, middle, dance, driver, mizzen mast; English: Fore, Main, Mizzen, Middle, Driver, Pusher, Spanker mast.
  • engl. Standard: Fore Main Mizzen Jigger Driver Pusher Spanker; (German: jib, main, cross, dance, driver, slide, mizzen mast)

In the deviating English terminology of ship masts, the "middle mast" rarely appears (see gaff schooner ).

The central mast is divided into:

  • Middle lower mast
  • Central marshals
  • Middle slat
  • Central flag head

The yards are named (if square sails are used):

  • Medium (under) rah
  • Central lower marsrah
  • Middle Upper Marsrah
  • Center braamrah
  • Middle Oberbramrah
  • Middle Royalrah
  • Middle Skyrah

Accordingly, the sails are called:

  • Center sail
  • Center under sail
  • Middle upper topsail
  • Center under sail
  • Middle upper sails
  • Middle royal sail
  • Middle sky sail
