Mittleres Kirchgäßlein 1 in Coburg

The house at Mittleres Kirchgäßlein 1 is located in downtown Coburg , west of the Morizkirche . The listed three-storey building with a gable roof facing the churchyard dates from the 14th century .

history

The original structure of the corner house dates from the late Middle Ages . Dendrochronologically , the roof structure was dated to the year 1384/1385.

It was first mentioned in 1398 and the property is said to have been the former town hall of Coburg until a new building on the market was completed around 1414. In 1700 the building was described as a very old corner house with three floors, three rooms, a cellar and a stable. Alterations were probably made in the 17th or 18th century. A relocation of the stairs and further modifications are documented for 1910. In 1970 the house was newly plastered.

architecture

The building has a gable roof with a span of about 8.4 meters, a height of about 6.9 meters and a length of about 15.1 meters. The slope of the steep structure is around 59 degrees. The roof structure consists of twelve rafters with two collar beam layers, two of which form the gable walls.

The outer walls on the ground floor consist of ashlar masonry, on which the green plastered half-timbered construction of the upper floors rests in a uniquely cantilever manner, with windows arranged just below the ceiling. The gable to the churchyard is slated . Below there are five windows on the second floor and four windows on the other floors. The facade to the Mittleren Kirchgäßlein has six irregularly arranged windows on the floors. The central entrance to the house with a front door from the 18th century and a portal made of sandstone, shaped like a basket with smooth posts and a wedge stone, is striking.
