Mizima

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mizima was a Hittite king who is only known from seal impressions from Kuşaklı , the ancient Šarišša. He lived in the first half of the 14th century BC. The reading of his name hieroglyphs is uncertain. On the seals there are the three characters Ma / i-zi (ti) -ma , which allow different readings: Mazitima, Minizimia or Mizima. In addition to these name hieroglyphs, there is also the character king .

The position of this ruler is uncertain. Otherwise he is not attested. The Hittite kings usually refer to themselves as the great king . The big thing is missing here. A gentleman from Šarišša is known from other texts , but he did not have the title of king. Either one of these lords usurped the title of king, probably without the knowledge of the great king, or Šarišša was temporarily not part of the Hittite empire and was ruled by its own kings. The first half of the 14th century BC BC is indeed a turbulent phase in Hittite history, in which there were various strivings for independence and the empire was in danger of decay.
