Mobile IP registration procedure

To register a mobile device in a foreign network , a Mobile IP registration procedure must be carried out.

she allows

  • the registration of the mobile host with the foreign agent of the foreign network
  • the registration with the home agent for forwarding the data packets
  • the renewal of an expiring registration
  • logging out of the foreign network

A Mobile IP registration message contains the following fields:

  • Type (8 bit): type of registration message (type 1 = request; type 3 = response)
  • Flags (8 bit): Codes to define details for forwarding IP packets
  • Home address (32 bit): Primary address of the mobile host
  • Home Agent (32 bit): IP address of the home agent
  • Care-Of-Address (32 Bit): secondary address of the mobile host
  • Identification (64 bit): ID generated by the mobile host to identify registration messages that belong together
  • Extensions  : contains e.g. B. Authentication of the mobile host
