Model making today

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Modellbau heute , short mbh , was a monthly magazine of the GST , which dealt with all facets of the model making. The first edition appeared in January 1970, the last edition in September 1993. The publisher was the military publishing house of the GDR .

The aim of the magazine was to publish construction plans of ship, car and flight models in the form of detailed technical drawings and assembly tips on a monthly basis. In addition to hobby hobbyists and model making friends, student working groups and apprentices were also intended as addressees. Model making was seen by the public as a sensible leisure activity and preparation for work or military service.

The editorial part always included a report on GST model builders, events and reviews of international competitions. Another section was devoted to the topic of model making electronics. Recommended literature, tips and tricks for self-construction and handling miniature tools as well as sources of supply for materials (e.g. electronic components, adhesives and casting resins) supplemented the practical part. Exchange offers, advertisements and pictures sent in by model builders were published on the last pages.

The cover picture, the attached graphics, drawings and model photos were of high quality. On the back, pictures of ships, vehicles and military aircraft with the respective national emblems were reproduced as a collective offer, and a mostly detailed magazine article explained historical data.
