The Modelletto (it. Modelletto , diminutive of modello "model") is the smaller version of a painting, but not a preliminary version in the sense of a finished sketch. Modelletti were presented to potential clients as a working example for decision before the definitive contract award. They were often so masterful that they can be considered real works of art. A bozzetto is the corresponding small version for statues.
