Model horses are collector's items from horse-loving people from all over the world. The models themselves are made of plastic, porcelain, ceramic, resin or bronze.

The passion for collecting is often awakened in childhood. Many collectors strive for the highest possible authenticity and thus for the most lifelike horse models possible. Many collectors make true-to-scale and realistic tack for their models, sometimes even entire stables. Another aspect of this hobby is to use the models to create scenes from real equestrian life and to take photographs of them. Other collectors prefer to modify purchased model horses by remodeling (custen) and repainting them, so that they become unique pieces.
