The ModellWerft is a monthly German-language trade journal for ship model building. It is published by the Verlag für Technik und Handwerk neue Medien (VTH) in Baden-Baden.

history

In 1977 the Maritim-Verlag in Wolfsburg started 1977 with the ModellWerft on the German magazine market. In terms of content, the entire range of ship model building was mapped even then. In addition to model tests of current model kits, the focus was always on building a wide variety of ship models. Each issue was rounded off by well-founded tips and tricks from model building practice, reports from ship model events and ship portraits of model ships.

In 1985, the publication frequency of the ModellWerft was increased from six to twelve annual editions, at the same time the Triton Verlag by Helmut Harhaus designed the ship propeller , which appears six times a year and which competed directly with the ModellWerft . Just one year later, the Verlag für Technik und Handwerk (VTH) from Baden-Baden took over the publishing responsibility for the ship's propeller . In 1989, Miba-Verlag, which specializes in model railroad publications, acquired the ModellWerft . At the beginning of the 1990s, Miba-Verlag was integrated into the newspaper group WAZ (today Funke Mediengruppe), to which the VTH now also belonged. Due to the greater content- related proximity to the product portfolio of VTH , which specializes in RC model construction , responsibility for the ModellWerft was transferred from Miba Verlag to VTH. This is where the ModellWerft merged in 1996 with the ship's propeller , whose name lived on in the form of special publications.

Over the years, many books on in-depth topics in ship model building, but also accompanying literature, such as turning and milling, have been published as a supplement to the ModellWerft . The extensive range of ship model building plans has also been consistently expanded. In addition to own productions, construction plans from all over the world are regularly included in the sales.

In 2012 the publishing house went to a private investor group with the ModellWerft and operates under the name of Verlag für Technik und Handwerk neue Medien . The traditional Baden-Baden publishing house celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016 with a big ceremony. In autumn 2019 the VTH published the 450 editions published from 1977 to 2019 on a double DVD as a chronicle of ship model building.
