MonetDB is a free , columnar relational database management system . It is an open source project that has its origins at the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica in Amsterdam .
MonetDB follows the SQL standards and offers interfaces via ODBC and JDBC . The supported programming languages are C , C ++ , Java , JavaScript ( Node.js ), Perl , PHP , Python , R and Ruby . Server-side scripts are possible in SQL , C and R. MonetDB fragments the database tables column-oriented in the storage model, so that speed advantages arise for certain queries. Column-oriented data structures often exist with data that is used for statistical analysis. There is a possibility with R to carry out analyzes directly at the database level, so that MonetDB is used in particular for data with later application in data mining .
