Monica Cirinnà (born February 15, 1963 in Rome ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico . She has been a senator since 2013 .

Life

Cirinnà studied law at La Sapienza University . She is married to the politician Esterino Montino (2001-2008 senator; since 2013 mayor of Fiumicino).

Political career

As a representative of the center-left list L'Ulivo and the Partito Democratico (PD), Cirinnà was a member of the municipal council of Rome from 2006 to 2013. Since 2013 she has been a member of the Italian Senate , where she represents the Lazio region . She is on the judiciary committee. Her name is linked to the law for a civil partnership law based on the German model, which she was the first to sign and which she introduced to the Senate in the summer of 2015.
