Monochrome sensor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A monochrome sensor (also BW (= Black / White) / SW (= Black / White) sensor) is a camera sensor that can only capture black and white images. If this is used as a second sensor in, for example, modern smartphones , sharper images with better contrasts can be generated. Otherwise, this effect can only be created with large image sensors such as those built into DSLR cameras . The photos are better in these respects because, unlike the RGB sensor, all colors of the light are recorded and not partially reflected. The first monochrome sensor was installed in a DSLR camera by Kodak in 2001.
