Monogenetic volcano

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A monogenetic volcano , in contrast to a polygenetic volcano, is created through just one eruption or an eruption phase lasting several years. Many cinder cones , tuff rings and maars are of this type. These volcanoes are often gathered in their hundreds in so-called monogenetic volcanic fields .

A vivid example is the Paricutín cinder cone in Mexico, the construction phase of which lasted nine years.
