Monte Montgomery (* 11. August 1966 as Monte Patrick Montgomery in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American musician, singer and songwriter , who is best known for his live performances with his electro-acoustic guitar.

Career

Montgomery began his career at a regional broadcaster , where he performed five tracks on a live broadcast with his band members at the time, Chris Maresh on bass and Phil Bass on drums.

He has appeared on numerous magazine covers, including the November 2005 issue of "Acoustic Guitar", the 2005 winter issue of "Frets" and the 2006 December issue of the Italian magazine "Guitar Club" named one of the "Top 50 Guitarists of All Time". Incidentally, in the late 1990s he headed the list of America's ten best unknown guitarists in "Guitar One Magazine". He was the only artist to win the "Best Acoustic Player" award at the SXSW Festival in Austin for seven years (1998–2004) in a row.

On January 24th, 2004, Alvarez Guitars released the MMY1 Monte Montgomery Signature Guitar , a model based on Monte's 1987 Alvarez-Yairi DY62C Electro-Acoustic Guitar. Due to his "intense" playing, Monte has broken the neck of his DY62C guitar four times in the course of his career - the MMY1 then got a reinforced neck.
