The Montes Caucasus are a rugged mountain range on the Earth's moon , between the Mare Imbrium in the west and the Mare Serenitatis in the southeast. The diameter is estimated at 445 km. The mountains are up to 6 km high. The name Montes Caucasus - derived from Caucasus - comes from the German astronomer Johann Heinrich von Mädler .
