Moonsun [muːn.sʌn] is a Metal project from Germany , the Thomas Kolbin (born 29 September 1988 in Tomsk ) and Susanne Scherer (born March 23, 1990 in Quierschied ) was launched. MoonSun's music can be classified between symphonic metal and power metal .

history

Susanne Scherer and Thomas Kolbin got to know each other during their time together with the 5-piece symphonic metal band Mystic Hour . Since the band was about to break up early on (Mystic Hour finally broke up in 2012), the two started their own project MoonSun in 2011 . In their early days, they released acoustic covers of metal songs (primarily the band Nightwish ). Due to the positive feedback from their growing YouTube community, they decided to work on their first album, which they released in 2013. The distribution of this self-produced album Silent Pieces went through their website, whereby there was no fixed price for the album. Payment was on a voluntary basis, so the amounts paid ranged from zero to higher double-digit amounts. In general, their concept worked and the album sold in over 25 countries within two months.

Motivated by the positive feedback, they went straight to their second studio album Inner Clouds , which they also distributed on their website in 2015. Once again, the concept of payment was implemented on a voluntary basis. In June 2015 they released a video for the single Fly Again . The pair continued to publish covers on their YouTube channel MoonSunBand , with their 2017 version of the Skyrim theme song The Dragonborn Comes being a huge hit. It became the first of their videos to exceed one million views in May 2019.

In 2018, however, their acoustic style should change when a support tour with the metal a cappella band Van Canto was due. They took this as an opportunity to steer their style of music into a tougher track, so that on their EP Rise and Shine , released in 2018, the acoustic guitar was replaced by an electric guitar for the first time. For the live implementation they had to think about something, as there were only two of them in front of the metal audience. They used a loop station that gave them the effect of being accompanied by a full band. This concept was very well received by the audience.

"In fact there are only two of them, but they emit as much energy as a complete band."

This tour gave MoonSun a huge boost and allowed the extensive social media community to grow together. The video for the single Don't Lie to Me reached one million views within eleven months. In May 2018 their online shop was launched, in which you can buy all of the band's merchandise. Since the beginning of 2019 MoonSun have been writing symphonic power metal songs for their YouTube channel, which is now almost 60,000 subscribers. You still produce everything yourself today and want to remain completely independent.

Surname

The band name is a combination of "Moon" (German: moon) and "Sun" (German: sun) and, like Yin and Yang, stands for an opposing, but nevertheless related, force. The idea of this name came from the breath theory of Terlusollogy , according to which Susanne was initially taught in her singing lessons. Thomas, who was classified as lunar, found his perfect counterpart in the solar Susanne. Furthermore, of course, the contrast between man and woman, as well as the different voices of the two, rock voice vs. lyrical voice to call.
