The Mosor is a section of the Dinaric coastal mountains in southern Croatia .
It stretches for about 25 km between Split and the mouth of the Cetina River near Omiš in the Central Dalmatia region . The highest peak is the Veliki Kabal (1339 m).
The karstified slopes of the Mosor consist mainly of limestone . It is arid and only sparsely forested.
From the late Middle Ages to the beginning of the 19th century, the Mosor was the heartland of the semi-autonomous Republic of Poljica .
