Mourousis
Mourousis ( Mourousi, Mourousy, Mourouzi, Moruzi, Murusi ) was a phanariotic family who held the title of prince and owned extensive land in the Moldavian region and Wallachia . These principalities were under the Ottoman suzerainty before they formed the Romanian state after their merger in the 19th century.
Prince Constantin Mourousis (1730–1787) was Gospodar of Moldova , his son Prince Alexandru Mourousis (1750–1816) ascended the throne of the Principality of Moldova in 1792 and a year later that of the Principality of Wallachia .
The family provided a number of leading Romanian diplomats, court dignitaries and state officials. The Serbian Queen Nathalie (née Keschko), wife of Milan Obrenovic, the first King of Serbia, was a relative of the Mourousis on the maternal side, to whose property she temporarily withdrew after her repudiation.
The current head of the house, Prince Constantin Pavlovitch Mourousy , lives in Paris and is a French national.
