Kenneth Joel "Kenny" Hotz (born May 3, 1967 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian screenwriter , actor , producer , director and photographer . He was also one of the two protagonists of the Canadian comedy series Kenny vs. Spenny and is the inventor and screenwriter of the Showcase / FX series Testees .

Life

Adolescence and early adulthood

At the age of seven, Kenny Hotz was sent to a film camp for the holidays , where he made his first film. In 1989 he started making documentaries . At this time he also had the idea of ​​developing a television show in which he and a friend would compete against each other in a series of competitions to measure themselves against each other. This concept later became the Kenny vs. Spenny evolved .

After graduating from Ryerson University in 1991, he became a film director and photographer and toured the world. In the same year, Hotz traveled to Iraq to report (as the only Canadian artist) on the Gulf War . Kenny Hotz has also been working as a photographer since 1986. For his works he photographed the Auschwitz concentration camp , Dachau , the “ Needle Park ” in Zurich (a meeting place for drug dealers and addicts) and the celebration of the millennium in New York's Times Square .

Career

After returning to Canada, Kenny Hotz worked with Spencer Rice on It Don't Cost Nothin 'to Say Good Morning , a short film about the life and death of the short homeless man "Shorty Gordy" in Toronto. In 1997 he worked as a screenwriter for the animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . In the same year he and his friend Spencer Rice made the film Pitch , in which they documented their (unsuccessful) attempts to sell a script they had written. The show Kenny vs. Spenny was nominated for a Gemini Award in 2004. Hotz produced a total of 87 episodes on 6 seasons for the Canadian television station Showcase . In 2002, Kenny Hotz made the documentary The Papal Chase , in which he tries to meet Pope John Paul II at World Youth Day in Toronto. Several members of the Rolling Stones made a cameo in the film . The film was the 2004 Festival Whistler film with the Borsos Award awarded and won in 2005 at the Canadian Filmmakers Festival the audience award in the category "Best Canadian Feature Film". In 2008, Kenny Hotz shot his third feature film in collaboration with Films Transit International. He also developed a comedy series called "Testees," which is about two young men who earn their living as guinea pigs for a research company and try to cope with the side effects.

Kenny's special trademark in the Kenny vs. Spenny is the basic willingness to win the competition through unauthorized tricks, lies, cheating and other frauds and to humiliate Spenny as a consequence.
