Spencer Nolan "Spenny" Rice (born April 14, 1963 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian screenwriter , actor , director , producer and comedian . He was one of the two main characters in the comedy series Kenny vs. Spenny .

Life

Personal

Rice was born in Toronto , Ontario . As a child and teenager, he took part in the improvisational comedy company Second City. He spent much of his school years watching movies and reading novels. Rice has been playing guitar since childhood and is also a big fan of blues rock . He is the cousin of Canadian actress Lauren Collins , who became famous for her role as Paige Michalchuk in the youth series Degrassi: The Next Generation . Spencer Rice is also a first cousin of the late screenwriter Majorie Gross , who wrote four episodes of the sitcom Seinfeld , among other things .

education

Prior to entering high school , Rice attended a private boys' school in downtown Toronto. He then studied film studies at York University .

Career

After graduating from college, Rice made the occasional money writing, filmmaking, and film critic for a Toronto newspaper. In 1994, Rice worked with Kenny Hotz on It Don't Cost Nothin 'to Say Good Morning , a short film about the life and death of the short, homeless “Shorty Gordy”. Their first lengthy film was Pitch , in which they documented their (unsuccessful) attempts to sell a script they had written. This was awarded at the Toronto Independent Arts Festival. His short film Something Anything won the 2000 Telefest Independent Television Festival in the category Best Comedy .

Together with Kenny Hotz he founded the show Kenny vs. Spenny , which ran from 2002 to 2010. The show was about various competitions between him and his friend Kenny Hotz. The show was broadcast in several countries. In 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 the show was nominated for a Gemini Award . In 2008, Rice wrote the Mockumentary Confessions of a Porn Addict , in which he took on the role of the main character. Rice's next project was called Single White Spenny . The series was canceled after just eight episodes due to poor reviews.

The Canadian also appears as a stand-up comedian .
