The Mozart Society 1829 e. V. Nuremberg is the oldest Mozart association in the world.

history

The Nuremberg Mozart Association has its origins in the Nürnbergische Liedertafel, founded in 1829 in the Rössler'schen coffee house . Its founder was city music director Ernst Blumröder (1776-1858), who was enthusiastic about the Berlin Goethe-Zelter'schen Liedertafel and suggested the foundation.

The members wanted to give support to the poor through musical entertainment and to provide them with "feeding" in the harsh winter of that time .

In 1839 the name was changed to "Philharmonic Association" and in 1842 the name was changed to "Mozart Association ". Since 1938 the association has been called "Mozartverein 1829 eV Nürnberg" .

In 1982, in connection with the “31. Deutsche Mozartfest "the connection to the" German Mozart Society Augsburg "is completed. In 1995 he joined the "International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg".

After several years on the advisory board, Wolfgang Manz took over the chairmanship of the association in March 2012. Manz has been professor for piano at the University of Music in Nuremberg since 2000 .

The association, with around 200 members, holds around six concerts a year, which include works from Mozart and his contemporaries, from baroque to modern classical music.

He also organizes opportunities for young musicians to show off their skills in front of an expert audience. Since 2001, the association has organized a competition for chamber music aimed at students at the Nuremberg University of Music.
