Mudder Island is an annual cross-country obstacle course on the island of Poel .

Course

Mudder Island is an obstacle course over beach areas, fields and a former military training area. The design is based on military training courses.

According to the organizer, the participants have the choice between two courses:

  • A long distance of 18-20 km with around 35 obstacles.
  • A shorter route of 8-10 km with around 15 obstacles.

The name Mudder, reminiscent of English, mud , and North German modder , suggests that obstacles with plenty of mud have to be overcome on the route, for example a crawl through a mud bath under a wire entanglement. Other obstacles include a water slide, climbing wall, straw bales, stream field, rope wall and, as a special challenge, a four-meter-high arched wooden wall. It can only be overcome by very sporty people on their own. The others depend on teamwork and the help of athletes.

history

In 2017, when the event first took place, 347 people registered to attend. In 2018, the number almost doubled to 689 people, and in 2019, with around 1200 participants, it was almost twice as many.
