Interossei muscles (foot)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The interossei muscles ( Latin for " interbone muscles ") are a group of skeletal muscles in the metatarsal area . Like the muscles of the hand of the same name, they are divided into a dorsal and a plantar group on the dorsal side of the foot.

Dorsal interossei muscles

The four interbone muscles on the dorsum of the foot are double-pinnate muscles in humans , which arise with two tendons on the two metatarsal bones between which they are located. They are attached to the first phalanx of the toe ( phalanx proximalis ), the first on the inside of the second, the rest on the outside of the second, third and fourth toes. In addition, they radiate into the aponeurosis of the extensor digitorum longus muscle .

Plantar interosseous muscles

The three interbone muscles on the sole side of the foot arise from only one, namely the third, fourth and fifth metatarsal bones. They start at the first phalanx of the toe of the same number and at the aponeurosis of the extensor digitorum longus muscle.
