The Museo Néstor is a public museum in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , it is dedicated to the most important painter of the  Canary Islands Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre .

Facility

The Pinakothek was opened on July 18, 1956 and is located in a traditional Canarian building. The regional-folkloric architectural ensemble was built by the painter's brother, the architect Miguel Martín-Fernández de la Torre , and has included the life's work of Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre on two floors with twelve rooms since 1956. The Museo Néstor is financed by the city administration and private donations. The current museum director is Antonio Daniel Montesdeoca García-Sáenz.

In addition to the permanent exhibition of Nestor's works, there is also a room for temporary exhibitions, a documentation center and a souvenir shop.

The permanent collection consists of a representative selection of Néstor's works, grouped in thematic order:

  • Juventud: the young artist's first works
  • Simbolismo: works by Néstor that express European symbolism and modernity
  • Retratos: Nestor's friends and contemporaries depicted with pen and brush
  • Teatro: stage sets and designs of costumes
  • Visiones: pictorial expression of the studies he carried out
  • Poema del Mar: a collection of eight works on canvas that symbolize his study trips to Europe and South America under the motto Atlántico
  • Poema de la Tierra: unfinished works by the artist that complement Poema del Mar but have four different times of the day and four allegories

Library

The holdings in the Documentation Center consist of more than three hundred titles from Nestor's private collection. Most of them are art catalogs, poems and diaries of his travels as well as notes on the study of art history.
