Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre , Néstor for short (born February 7, 1887 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , † February 6, 1938 ibid) is considered the most important painter of the Canary Islands . His work can be assigned to symbolism , Art Nouveau (Spanish: Modernismo) and regionalist Art Deco . He also emerged as a set designer. The pictorial cycles Poema del Atlántico (1913–1924) and Poema de la Tierra (1934–1938), characterized by expressive homoerotic sensuality, are considered to be Néstor's main works .

Néstor's talent emerged at an early age; at the age of seven he was already delivering extraordinary drawings as a student at the College of San Agustín. In 1899, his first teacher was the marine and landscape painter Eliseo Meifrén. At the age of fifteen Néstor moved to Madrid , where Rafael Hidalgo de Caviedes continued to teach him. From 1904 the young painter perfected his technique in Paris , Brussels , Ghent , Bruges and London .

In 1908 he had his first own exhibition in Barcelona, org 1908 in the equestrian club, a series of portraits in the tradition of the British school. From 1915 he was also bühnenbildnerisch operates. After years of traveling and exhibiting in Europe and South America, during which the artist had his main residence in Paris, he returned to his native Las Palmas in the 1930s. Néstor also designed the “Canarian Village” in Las Palmas, where the artist and his brother worked together, and where his museum is now. This regionalist-folk architecture ensemble was opened on July 18, 1956. Due to the artist's early death, many of his works remained unfinished.
