The Hotel de Inmigrantes

The Hotel de Inmigrantes building is a former residence for newcomers to Buenos Aires. In view of the increasing numbers of immigrants at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, the city built a central housing that was also one of the city's first concrete structures. Construction began in 1905. From opening in 1911 to closing in 1953, a total of around one million immigrants were housed there. The Hotel de Inmigrantes not only offered accommodation, but also food, job placement and courses (e.g. for the use of agricultural machinery or housekeeping).
